KUALA LUMPUR – Adam Adli lost his bid for the deputy chairmanship of the PKR Hang Tuah Jaya branch in yesterday’s party elections.

The Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports garnered 791 votes, falling short against his opponent Zamzizul Nordin, who secured 1,905 votes, local media reported.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, the Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, emerged victorious in the race for the chairmanship of the Hang Tuah Jaya branch, winning with a commanding 1,995 votes. He defeated the incumbent, Mohd Rafee Ibrahim, who received 736 votes.

The leadership elections for PKR’s Hang Tuah Jaya branch also saw Lee Kah Kim triumph in the race for deputy chairman with 2,064 votes, while his challenger, David Ong Wai Leong, received 646 votes.

The results indicate that Shamsul Iskandar’s team had a clean sweep of the top positions, reflecting the success of their campaign under the motto “Keadilan Memimpin.”

Commenting on his win, Shamsul Iskandar described it as a sweet victory, especially as Hang Tuah Jaya was where his political journey began, having been elevated as a Member of Parliament and becoming active in Melaka’s political scene.

“This victory, after losing in my first attempt three years ago, shows the strong support from the party members for me,” he was quoted as saying. “I am grateful to all the delegates who chose me and this team, leading us to success.”

The results, as announced on the official PKR election website, also revealed that former Klebang state assemblyman Datuk Gue Teck did not succeed in his attempt to secure the post of chief of the Tangga Batu branch in a three-way race. Teck finished second with 568 votes, falling to Azlan Osman, who received 609 votes, while Teh Wah Ning garnered 198 votes. – April 13, 2025
