Hannah hopes for renewed effort to find Faisal Halim’s acid attack assailant

Youth and Sports minister says the assault on the national footballer is a serious crime that demands justice, and welcomes continued police investigations despite the case being previously marked No Further Action

KUALA LUMPUR — Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has expressed hope that authorities will continue their investigation into the acid attack on national footballer Faisal Halim, despite the case previously being classified as No Further Action (NFA).

She said the assault on the Selangor FC winger, widely known as Faisal Halim, was a serious crime and deserved justice.

“I read the police statement that they said the NFA did not mean the investigation was stopped, so I am relieved that it is still ongoing.

“I hope they will put more effort into finding the perpetrator(s) responsible because I feel it is unacceptable for this to happen to our athletes,” she told reporters at the opening of the Astaf 2025 Asia Cup Sepaktakraw Championship today.

Earlier, police confirmed that investigations into the attack on Faisal were still ongoing, despite the case’s NFA status.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain explained that the classification came after investigators hit a dead end.

The arrests of three suspects, along with CCTV footage and facial composites, had not yielded any links to the crime, he said. However, efforts to pursue new leads would continue. — May 9, 2025
