Use ‘low point’ to ‘invest’ in party future, Rafizi tells Sarawak PKR members

Deputy president urges party members in the region to take the opportunity of Sarawakians’ continued support for state govt to regroup, strengthen for future elections

KUALA LUMPUR – The current low point in the political cycle is the right time to invest in cultivating a new generation of PKR leaders, said incumbent deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli.

He urged PKR members in Sarawak to treat the current political climate – marked by Sarawakians’ continued support for the state government – as an opportunity to regroup and strengthen themselves for future challenges.

“This low point in our political cycle is a good time for us to invest in the party’s future. Use this period to develop new talent, because the cycle will turn and our time will come,” he said during the Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi Dalam Ujian Kuasa (Hiruk) Tour programme in Kuching, Sarawak last night, Bernama reported.

Rafizi said PKR had shown potential in past elections to win at least three parliamentary seats in Sarawak.

“Miri is indeed our stronghold here in Sarawak, but there are also two or three other parliamentary constituencies with real potential,” he said, citing Kanowit, Selangau, and Puncak Borneo as promising seats.

On his contest as deputy president and the central party elections, Rafizi added that whoever is elected in the party polls on May 23 must take Sarawak members’ concerns seriously, particularly in ensuring the party remains relevant in the state.

In the 15th general election (GE15), PKR retained the Miri parliamentary seat for a third consecutive term since 2013. The party had previously won Selangau and Puncak Borneo, and narrowly lost Kanowit in GE15. – May 18, 2025
