KUALA LUMPUR – The country’s most anticipated night cycling event, the RHB Lekas Highway Ride, is back on October 11 with a glow-up of its own, marking 10 years since its first edition across the Kajang-Seremban Expressway.
With the entire highway once again set to be closed off and illuminated for the night, over 7,000 cyclists from Malaysia and abroad are expected to turn up for what’s become a permanent fixture on the cycling calendar.
Since its debut in 2013, the ride has grown into Malaysia’s largest night cycling event, earning two Malaysia Book of Records entries last year — for the biggest turnout and longest race distance on a highway at night.
Adding a sentimental touch this year, 23 cyclists — 18 Malaysians and five Singaporeans — who have never missed a single edition will receive complimentary passes as a thank-you for a decade of loyalty.
Riders will take off from the Kajang Selatan Toll Plaza with several categories to choose from, including a 105km and 78km challenge, shorter open rides, and youth categories for newcomers.
More than 3,000 people have already signed up, with organisers confident of hitting the 7,000 mark.
“This event is more than just a ride. It’s about uniting people in a healthy, inclusive environment. We’re proud to see how the highway can be transformed into an enjoyable space for everyone,” said IJM Corporation Berhad Group CEO, Datuk Lee Chun Fai, in a statement.
Meanwhile RHB Banking Group group managing director and CEO, Mohd Rashid Mohamad, added, “With such a strong response, we’re confident of reaching our target of 7,000 participants for this year’s edition.”
The event is supported by RHB Banking Group, Lekas, Tokio Marine, Institut Jantung Negara, IJM Land, Dahua Technology, and is backed by the Works Ministry, the Malaysian Highway Authority, and the Royal Malaysia Police. — May 19, 2025
