KUALA LUMPUR — PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun believes supporters of Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli will remain loyal to the party despite the reformist leader’s recent defeat in the race for the deputy presidency.
Speaking to reporters in Nilai last night, the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar said those aligned with Rafizi simply needed time to regroup and would continue working with the party in due course.
“They will not leave the party, but are instead looking at strategies that can be implemented at the branch and division levels as a way forward.
“I am one of Datuk Seri Rafizi’s strong supporters, and I believe they just need a bit of time to settle down and will eventually return to support the party,” he said.
Rafizi lost the PKR central leadership election for the party’s number two post to Nurul Izzah Anwar, who secured 9,803 votes. The Pandan MP obtained 3,866 votes in the contest.
Aminuddin, who successfully defended his vice-presidency in a crowded 12-way contest, said he had not expected to retain the post.
He also stressed that the party leadership must not take grassroots feedback lightly, especially views expressed during the campaign period and internal election.
“The party leadership must devise strategies and work on addressing various issues that were raised or discussed, including those circulating on social media.
“Although the party election has concluded, if you look at various social media platforms, many topics are still being debated.
“I believe PKR leaders need to develop strategies and provide clear explanations. We cannot take public comments lightly.
“We must improve on all feedback received and work harder than we currently are as we head towards the general election,” he added. – May 26, 2025
