KUALA LUMPUR – Newly elected PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar has paid tribute to Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli following his resignation as Economy Minister, describing him as a courageous and principled leader whose ideas have left a lasting impact on national discourse.
In a Facebook post today, Nurul Izzah said Rafizi never shied away from challenging power or speaking uncomfortable truths, and credited him with shaping key conversations around governance, transparency, and economic justice.
“I respect him deeply. Many of his ideas will not be forgotten — they will continue, be refined and implemented — not because they came from him or me, but because they are what’s best for Malaysia,” she wrote.
Earlier today, Rafizi announced that he would step down from the Cabinet effective June 17, after losing his bid to retain the deputy presidency of PKR in the party elections on May 23. He had earlier pledged to relinquish his ministerial role if he failed to defend his post.
Nurul Izzah emphasised that Rafizi’s contributions would remain relevant beyond his role in government.
“His thinking will always be a strength — whether he is in government or not. The country needs bold ideas and decisive action, and I believe he still has much to contribute. Wherever his journey leads next, I am confident he will continue shaping Malaysia’s future in meaningful ways,” she said.
She also reaffirmed her focus on party reform, beginning with strengthening leadership integrity at all levels.
“Our duty is to constantly remind ourselves that we cannot stray from the principles we have long championed,” she said.
As an immediate measure, she announced that PKR will roll out mandatory training for all party leaders — from the central to state and division levels — on key issues such as anti-money laundering laws (AMLA), anti-corruption compliance, and tax responsibilities.
“Good governance must be built on a foundation of strong principles and knowledge. This is crucial to combat political misconduct and ensure our leaders fully understand their responsibilities and preserve their integrity,” she added.
