KUALA LUMPUR — PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has strongly criticised individuals responsible for circulating a fake media statement bearing his name, calling the move a politically motivated attempt to mislead the public.

The Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives condemned the act as “desperate” and reaffirmed that any official communication from him would only be released through his office or verified social media accounts.

“Any official statement will only be issued through my office or via my official social media platforms,” he said in a statement issued today.

The fabricated message, which went viral on WhatsApp, was titled ‘Peletakan Jawatan Rafizi dan Nik Nazmi Bukti Nyata Kesuburan Demokrasi PKR’ and falsely attributed to the Sungai Buloh MP.

Ramanan urged the public to stay vigilant and not fall prey to such disinformation, which he said is part of a growing trend.

“As I emphasised during my winding-up speech at the PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) convention last week, the spread of defamatory materials is becoming more rampant, and party members must combat it with firm and decisive action,” he said.

His remarks come a day after Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad announced their resignations, effective June 17 and July 4 respectively, following their losses in the 2025 PKR party election. – May 29, 2025
