KUALA LUMPUR – The government is expected to finalise a comprehensive report on its proposed artificial intelligence (AI) regulatory framework by the end of June, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
The report, currently being prepared by the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) under the Digital Ministry, will serve as a key reference for the country’s future approach to AI regulation – whether through legislation, industry standards, or new policy measures, Bernama reported.
“Discussions with industry stakeholders are ongoing and several views have already been presented. I hope that by the end of June, we will have a report from NAIO that can help chart an appropriate course for AI governance in Malaysia,” Gobind told reporters.
He was speaking at the launch of the Cybersecurity Professional Capability Development Programme, which was also attended by the ministry’s secretary-general Fabian Bigar, CyberSecurity Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab, and EC-Council president Sanjay Bavisi.
Gobind stressed that the government’s AI strategy would emphasise sound governance and the importance of maintaining public confidence in digital technology.
“Amid this digital transformation, risks will inevitably arise. We must carefully consider how best to ensure public trust in digital platforms,” he said.
He also noted that any regulatory model must reflect the varying levels of risk and unique challenges posed by AI across different sectors. – June 3, 2025
