KUALA LUMPUR — Police are stepping up security measures in Brickfields following a fatal shooting at a restaurant along Jalan Tun Sambanthan last week.

Brickfields Deputy District Police Chief Superintendent Ahmad Firdaus Mustaffa Kamal told Scoop that the move aims to prevent similar incidents in the future.

He said local residents’ groups have voiced concerns and are hoping for stronger safety efforts.

“There will be an increased police presence in Brickfields to ensure such crimes do not recur. This includes more patrols, particularly at night and during the late hours, across both commercial and residential areas.

“Several residents’ associations and business owners near the scene have reached out to us to share their fears and concerns after the event. However, we advise the public not to panic. We remain committed to maintaining safety in Brickfields through these enhanced measures,” said Firdaus.

When asked about progress in tracking down the suspects, Firdaus said the authorities are closing in.

“We are getting closer to apprehending the suspects, but we cannot disclose further details at this stage of the investigation,” he added.

Earlier, Firdaus confirmed that search operations are ongoing at four locations: Jalan Klang Lama, Taman Medan, Pantai Dalam, and Bandar Kinrara.

The shooting on June 13 claimed the life of one man and injured two others as they dined at a restaurant on Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Brickfields.

The incident occurred at around 10.50pm when the victims, aged between 30 and 50, were approached by two men on a motorcycle who opened fire. One victim died at the scene from gunshot wounds.

In a separate incident on June 17, two men were shot dead outside a shopping centre lobby along Jalan Loke Yew in Cheras. A witness reported that a group of helmeted men rushed towards the victims and fired several shots.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Isa later said both shootings — in Brickfields and Cheras — are believed to be linked to criminal disputes originating in Sarawak and Selangor. — June 20, 2025
