KUALA LUMPUR — Police have arrested five individuals to assist investigations into the June 13 shooting in Brickfields, which left one man dead and two others injured.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the arrests were made on June 16 around the city, but all five have since been released on police bail after giving their statements.
“As for the Cheras case, no arrests have been made so far, but efforts to identify the suspects are ongoing,” he told Berita Harian.
Preliminary investigations suggest both incidents were likely triggered by clashes between groups involved in gang-related activities.
“Based on background checks on the victims, our probe is leaning towards a conflict between groups with a history of gang-related crime,” Mohamed Usuf said.
He added that investigations are still underway, with police looking into all individuals possibly connected to the cases.
So far, 18 witnesses have been questioned over the Brickfields shooting, while 20 individuals have been called in for statements regarding the Cheras case.
This month has seen a worrying spike in gun-related crimes across the Klang Valley, with three separate incidents reported.
The first occurred on June 13 in Brickfields, where three local men aged between 30 and 50 were having a meal with friends at a restaurant on Jalan Tun Sambanthan. Two men on a motorcycle pulled up and opened fire on them.
One of the victims died at the scene, while the other two were taken to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) for treatment.
As previously reported by Scoop, police have launched a manhunt for the two masked men believed to be behind the shooting.
In a separate incident on June 17, two men were gunned down outside a shopping mall on Jalan Loke Yew, Cheras. The victims were reportedly walking towards their parked vehicle when they were attacked around 12.15am.
The third shooting took place on June 20 in Meru, Klang, where a local man was fatally shot in front of a motorcycle shop on Lorong Mahang 1, Taman Meru Utama.
All three cases are being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, with police working to identify the suspects and determine their motives. — June 22, 2025
