Sumali stays top as Sepaktakraw presidency goes uncontested

The incumbent president secures 21 nominations to retain PSM presidency unopposed; six-way fight expected for deputy president posts

KUALA LUMPUR — Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan has retained his position as president of the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association (PSM) for the 2025–2028 term after winning the post uncontested ahead of the association’s executive committee election on June 29.

Chairman of the PSM Independent Election Committee, Prof Dr Mohad Anizu Mohd Nor, said in a statement today that Mohd Sumali was the sole nominee for the presidency, having secured 21 nominations from PSM affiliate members before the nomination deadline yesterday.

He added that the two deputy president posts will be contested in a six-way race, while eight candidates will vie for the three vice president positions.

“Candidate acceptance forms will be distributed to all contesting candidates and must be returned to the PSM Independent Election Committee by June 25,” he said.

Among the contenders for deputy president are incumbent Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman (16 nominations), Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan (15), and Datuk Akramuddin Abd Aziz (three).

Also in the running are Datuk Abu Jimi Samat and Syed Azmir Syed Ahmad, who received two nominations each, while Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman received one.

Meanwhile, Tengku Zaihan, Abu Jimi, Abdul Halim and Abdul Puhat have also entered the race for the vice president posts.

Other candidates in the vice president line-up include Mohd Husni Abdullah, Datuk Ahmad Zaffry Sulaiman, Abdul Rashid Adlie, and Datuk Dr Najmil Faiz Mohd Aris. — June 23, 2025
