KUALA LUMPUR – The remand of three individuals linked to the murder of university student Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara in Cyberjaya has been extended for another seven days, until July 10.

Sepang magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani granted the extension today, following the expiry of the earlier remand order issued on June 27, Bernama reported.

The suspects – a man and two women aged between 19 and 20 – were arrested between June 26 and 27 in Johor Bahru and Gemencheh, Negeri Sembilan. All three are known to the victim, a 20-year-old University of Cyberjaya student who was found dead in her condominium unit on the morning of June 24.

An autopsy revealed she died from blunt force trauma to the head. Police said there were no signs of forced entry or sexual assault.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan previously said the main suspect, an unemployed man in his 20s, used a key and access card provided by his girlfriend – who was also the victim’s housemate – to enter the apartment while the other housemates were away for the holidays. The victim had remained in Cyberjaya to sit for her final exam.

After allegedly assaulting and killing her, the suspect is believed to have stolen her mobile phone, laptop, and ATM card. He later withdrew RM200 from her account, accompanied by his girlfriend. Several of the stolen items have since been recovered.

Police also confirmed the arrest of a fourth suspect – a man who knew the victim but lived in a different block – who remains in custody. All four individuals are being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The investigation papers will be submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor once complete. – July 3, 2025
