KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended an official invitation to United States President Donald Trump to attend the Asean-US Summit and East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur this October.

The invitation was conveyed through US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who paid a courtesy call on Anwar earlier today.

“Malaysia remains confident that close cooperation with the US will not only strengthen bilateral relations, but also serve as a catalyst for stability, prosperity, and peace across the Indo-Pacific region,” Anwar wrote in a Facebook post.

The meeting, which lasted approximately 40 minutes, was held at the Parliament building and marked Rubio’s first visit to Asia since assuming office earlier this year.

Anwar said the discussion also opened the door for wider cooperation in digital investment, artificial intelligence (AI), defence, and education.

“We exchanged views on pressing regional issues, including the situations in Palestine, Ukraine, and Myanmar,” he added.

Rubio is in Malaysia to attend a series of high-level meetings in conjunction with the 58th Asean Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related events, held under Malaysia’s Asean Chairmanship for 2025, taking place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from July 8 to 11. — July 10, 2025
