KUALA LUMPUR — The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) will officially take over all regulatory functions and responsibilities from the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) within the civil aviation sector effective August 1.
In a statement today, Mavcom said this transition includes oversight of licensing, the allocation of air traffic rights, airport development, rural air services (RAS), economic and competition matters, as well as general regulatory supervision.
“CAAM will also manage digital platforms such as AeroFile and AeroLicence, which are used to process overflight and landing permits, as well as licensing applications,” it said.
The move is part of the government’s aviation regulatory rationalisation effort, in line with the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Dissolution) Act 2024 [Act 856].
Mavcom executive chairman Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim said the sustainability and continued growth of Malaysia’s aviation industry remain a priority throughout the transition.
“Our focus is to ensure a smooth and seamless process with minimal disruption to stakeholders and the public,” he said.
Mavcom assured that all consumer-facing platforms will remain fully operational during and after the transition. Travellers may continue to lodge complaints related to airlines or airports via the existing FlySmart website and mobile application.
“Any future changes to contact information will be communicated through CAAM’s official channels. Stakeholders are encouraged to visit www.caam.gov.my for the latest updates and access to services,” the statement added. — July 21, 2025
