Long Malaysia Day 2025 weekend: PM announces Sept 15 as public holiday

He said this is intended to honour national unity and significance of Malaysia’s formation

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced that Monday, September 15, will be designated as an additional public holiday in conjunction with this year’s Malaysia Day celebration.

He said the public holiday is intended to honour national unity and the significance of Malaysia’s formation. 

“It is hoped that this will strengthen unity and remind us of the greatness of our founding fathers who championed the formation of our beloved Malaysia,” Anwar said in his special announcement for Malaysians streamed live on national televisions and social media platforms today. 

The Malaysia Day celebration on September 16 is slated to be held at the PICCA@Arena Convention Centre in Butterworth, Penang. – July 23, 2025
