SEPANG — A 38-year-old man was arrested at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 last night after authorities discovered six exotic animals hidden in his luggage during a smuggling attempt to India.
Acting on a tip-off, enforcement personnel from the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia’s (CAAM) Aviation Security Division conducted a targeted baggage inspection at around 10pm.
“Initial scans revealed suspicious images resembling wildlife, prompting officers to carry out a further search,” AKPS said in a statement today.
The inspection uncovered a pair of silvery langurs, siamangs, and armadillos — animals with an estimated total value of RM73,000.
All were immediately seized and handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for further action.
The case is being investigated under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 and the International Trade in Endangered Species Act 2008. — July 27, 2025
