KAJANG — A 14-year-old student who punched and threatened his teacher pleaded guilty at the Magistrates’ Court here today to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt.

The Form One transition class student entered the plea after the charge was read before Magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil.

The court has fixed September 11 for the submission of a social report by the Social Welfare Department before passing sentence.

Proceedings were held in chambers as the accused is a minor.

The teenager was charged with intentionally causing injury to a 29-year-old male teacher at a secondary school here at 4.48pm on July 28.

He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

Speaking to reporters outside the courtroom, defence counsel S. Priyalatha said she appealed for a lower bail amount on the grounds that the accused is a juvenile and still attending school.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Syafiq Mohd Zulbahrin, however, proposed bail be set at RM5,000, citing the seriousness of the offence and the fact that the incident had gone viral on social media.

“The court allowed bail at RM1,000 with one surety,” said Priyalatha, adding that the student’s parents were present in court today.

The incident had earlier gone viral online, with a video clip showing a male student allegedly punching and threatening his teacher at the secondary school on July 28. — July 30, 2025
