Fahmi to tackle worsening Bangsar traffic

Lembah Pantai MP says rapid development must not come at the expense of residents’ quality of life

KUALA LUMPUR — Short- and long-term strategies are being drawn up to tackle chronic traffic congestion along Jalan Bangsar, following a meeting between Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), and property developers at Parliament yesterday.

In a Facebook post today, Fahmi — who is also the Member of Parliament for Lembah Pantai — said that with Bangsar undergoing rapid development, new projects must be planned responsibly to serve the public interest while safeguarding the quality of life for local residents.

“With strong commitment from all parties, we can find solutions that not only ease congestion but also ensure Bangsar remains a well-organised, comfortable and liveable area,” he wrote.

The minister’s remarks come amid growing frustration from residents and commuters over worsening traffic conditions in the area, especially during peak hours.

Bangsar, known as one of Kuala Lumpur’s most sought-after residential suburbs, is home to a mix of high-rise condominiums, landed homes, shopping malls, medical centres, and commercial hubs.

Its location adjacent to Pantai Dalam, Damansara, and Taman Tun Dr Ismail, with access to major arteries such as the Sprint Highway, New Pantai Expressway and Federal Highway, makes it a key transit point — but also increasingly vulnerable to gridlock as development intensifies.

Residents have long raised concerns that infrastructure has not kept pace with the neighbourhood’s rapid growth, which now includes a growing number of lifestyle, retail, and recreational facilities. — August 1, 2025
