KUALA LUMPUR – A key witness in the ongoing corruption trial related to the Penang undersea tunnel project involving Lim Guan Eng was attacked by a group of 10 men who broke into his home near Petaling Jaya today.
According to local media outlets, the victim sustained injuries to his face and hands after the attackers forcefully entered his residence.
It is understood that the assailants tied up two security guards before entering the house.
“The attackers also warned him to stay at home and not act as a ‘hero’,” the source added, as reported by Berita Harian.
Petaling Jaya Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja’afar, confirmed the incident, stating that a statement will be issued shortly.
Meanwhile, the lead prosecutor in Lim’s case, Datuk Wan Shahruddin Wan Ladin, said the prosecution would raise this issue when the trial resumes on August 19.
Lim, who is also the DAP advisor, faces multiple corruption charges in the Sessions Court related to the Penang undersea tunnel project.
He is accused of using his position as Penang Chief Minister to request a 10% commission from Zarul Ahmad in return for facilitating the appointment of Zarul’s company for the same project, located near The Gardens Hotel, Lingkaran Syed Putra, Mid Valley City, between 12.30am and 2am in March 2011.
Lim is also facing two charges for allegedly causing two state-owned land lots, valued at RM208.8 million, to be disposed of to a developer linked to the undersea tunnel project. These actions are said to have taken place at the Penang Land and Mines Office, Komtar, on February 17, 2015, and March 22, 2017. – August 6, 2025
