KUALA LUMPUR – Police have transferred the investigation into the assault on the son of former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli to Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the move was made to allow for a more centralised and comprehensive inquiry.
“Members of the public with information are urged to come forward and report to the nearest police station. Their cooperation is crucial in ensuring justice and transparency in this investigation,” he said in a statement.
The incident took place on August 12 at a shopping mall in Putrajaya.
Rafizi said a man dragged his 12-year-old son and was suddenly pricked with a syringe as the family was about to leave in their car at around 1.45pm.
The Pandan MP has claimed the attack may be linked to a probe he is conducting into a scandal, adding that his wife also received threatening phone calls following the assault.
Police said on Saturday they had identified “positive leads” in the hunt for the suspect, based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the mall.
So far, 14 people have been called to assist in the investigation. — August 17, 2025
