KUALA LUMPUR — The King has called for a nationwide anti-bullying campaign starting in primary schools, warning that failure to act early risks raising a generation without respect or compassion.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim said bullying not only harms the mental and emotional wellbeing of victims but can also lead to tragic consequences if left unchecked.

“Our children must be educated from a young age on this issue, and through this campaign, they shall be guided to understand the meaning of mutual respect and discipline,” he said in a statement on his official Facebook page.

His Majesty noted that recent amendments to the Penal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code reflected the government’s firm commitment to curbing bullying.

But he stressed that eradicating the problem requires cooperation across ministries and agencies to ensure a comprehensive approach.

Sultan Ibrahim’s remarks came after he granted an audience to Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil at Istana Negara.

During the meeting, Fahmi outlined the ministry’s ongoing initiatives to combat bullying and also briefed His Majesty on preparations for the 2025 National Day celebrations. — August 18, 2025
