KUALA LUMPUR — U Mobile has unveiled ULTRA5G, its new brand name for its 5G services, at its headquarters in Berjaya Times Square, here.
The company said the rebranding underscores its commitment to providing ultra-fast speeds, ultra-reliable connectivity and ultra-wide coverage.
Users at Berjaya Times Square will now see the ULTRA5G identifier on their devices following the rollout of in-building coverage (IBC).
To demonstrate the capability of its network, U Mobile staged Malaysia’s first 4K livestream of an 800-metre indoor roller coaster ride at the Berjaya Times Square Theme Park.
The broadcast, which lasted around two and a half minutes, maintained a smooth connection throughout, even as the ride reached speeds of 70km/h.
The company also showcased an immersive mixed-reality experience and a 5G network slicing demonstration, highlighting service differentiation and reliability.
Woon Ooi Yuen, U Mobile’s chief technology officer, said ULTRA5G would deliver new possibilities for consumers and businesses.
“ULTRA5G brings enhanced digital experiences, from ultra-reliable streaming and immersive gaming to high-quality video calls in crowded areas. For enterprises, ULTRA5G opens doors to advanced use cases like XR, robotics, smart cities and IR 4.0 automation,” he said.
Beyond Berjaya Times Square, U Mobile said its 5G network had also been deployed across Penang Bridge 1, connecting the full length of the bridge with just two towers to ensure seamless coverage for commuters.
The company has set a target of reaching 80% coverage of populated areas (CoPA) by the second half of 2026. It plans to focus on strategic indoor and outdoor sites such as airports, hospitals and convention centres in its next phase of rollout. — August 18, 2025
