The telco promises smooth streaming and crystal-clear calls for tens of thousands at celebrations in Sabah and Putrajaya

KUALA LUMPUR — U Mobile has switched on its ULTRA5G network in Kota Kinabalu, giving Sabahans a taste of next-generation connectivity just in time for National Day and Sabah Day on August 31.

The rollout means festival-goers — with crowds expected to hit 50,000 — can look forward to uninterrupted video calls and seamless live streaming even in congested areas. Devices connected to the new network will display “UM ULTRA5G”.

The telco is also powering up Putrajaya for the national celebrations, ensuring Malaysians in the capital get the same high-speed coverage.

U Mobile said the move reflects its push to extend 5G reach nationwide, promising reliable connections not only at major outdoor events but also indoors. — August 29, 2025
