KUALA LUMPUR – Grab Malaysia will field a 100-member contingent at this year’s National Day parade in Putrajaya, highlighting the contributions of its employees and partners to the country’s digital economy.

Led by Country Operations and Mobility director Rashid Shukor, the group will march under the banner of #GrabBersamaMalaysia.

Nearly 200 more Grab employees, driver-partners and delivery-partners are also set to participate in state-level celebrations in Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuantan and Penang.

Managing director Adelene Foo said the theme of this year’s celebrations – Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni – reflected the nation’s values of unity and inclusivity.

“With our National Day theme, ‘Keranamu Malaysia’, we want to highlight the true heroes behind the platform, our driver- and delivery-partners, along with the teams mapping roads, adapting technology and ensuring the platform works for everyone,” she said in a statement.

Grab said its Putrajaya contingent will include three persons with disabilities who have built livelihoods through the platform: long-serving wheelchair-user driver-partner Niyaz Naathan Vellasamy, hearing-impaired father of four Chang Yoon Khim, and wheelchair-user and single mother Teong Siew Queen.

Niyaz, who has been with Grab for nearly seven years, said the platform had given him independence and financial stability. “Through Grab, I’ve reached many milestones, including building meaningful connections across communities, exploring new places and, most importantly, achieving financial stability,” he said.

Chang and his wife, both hearing-impaired, have supported their family through Grab for seven years, while Teong balances driving with her role as an international referee for para powerlifting.

“Driving with Grab is the perfect choice as it gives me freedom, independence and the flexibility to manage my schedule with ease,” she said.

The company also highlighted the stories of single mother and delivery-partner Masnizah Marzukir, who once struggled to make ends meet, and Ipoh-based partner Fun Kheng Yuen, who has helped improve GrabMaps by charting nearly 143,000 points of interest across Peninsular Malaysia.

To mark the occasion, Grab will host a booth in Putrajaya offering lucky draws, exclusive merchandise and free vouchers. — August 30, 2025
