KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded statements from three more individuals regarding false race-related posts on Facebook and TikTok linked to the incident of a woman climbing onto the main stage during the Perak state-level National Day celebration in Ipoh recently.

In a statement, MCMC said the posts, which falsely claimed the woman was of Chinese ethnicity, were untrue and had the potential to incite racial tension and create negative perceptions among the public.
The individuals’ statements were taken yesterday at Kuala Nerang Police Station in Kedah, Beserah Police Station in Kuantan, and the Northeast District Police Headquarters in Penang.

“A total of three mobile phones, three SIM cards and one memory card were seized for digital forensic analysis.

“The investigation is being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588], which provides for a maximum fine of RM500,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, or both, upon conviction,” it said.

MCMC also reminded the public to always verify the authenticity of information before creating or sharing any content on social media. – September 4, 2025
