KUALA LUMPUR – As Malaysia prepares to celebrate Malaysia Day, Alliance for a Safe Community chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye has called on Malaysians to recommit to building a nation that is united, inclusive, and balanced — one where no community or region is left behind.
In a statement today, Lee said the country’s future would be brighter if its people continued to strengthen trust between regions, bridge development gaps, and uphold justice for all citizens.
“The promise of Malaysia is not only in its economic progress, but also in the values of moderation, mutual respect, and unity that bind us as one people,” he said.
Reflecting on the formation of Malaysia in 1963 — when Sabah and Sarawak joined Malaya in a federation built on “trust, mutual respect, and shared aspirations” — Lee emphasised that diversity remains the nation’s greatest strength more than six decades on.
“Malaysia’s unity is not uniformity, but the coming together of different cultures, traditions, and identities bound by one common destiny,” he said.
Lee stressed that true unity requires fair and inclusive regional integration, with balanced development ensuring Sabah and Sarawak are not left behind.
“The nation’s wealth and opportunities must be shared equitably so that every Malaysian, from Johor to Sabah and from Perlis to Sarawak, can prosper together,” he added.
Malaysia Day 2025, themed “Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni”, will be marked tomorrow at the PICCA Convention Centre@Arena Butterworth, Penang, with a range of activities. — September 15, 2025
