KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today marked Malaysia Day by emphasising that the day is not just about commemorating the historical union of diverse regions and cultures, but a symbol of the nation’s enduring commitment to unity in diversity.

In a post on his official social media account, Anwar noted that Malaysia Day serves as an annual reminder of the courage of previous generations who resisted colonial rule, upheld the dignity of the nation, and laid the foundations for an independent, sovereign Malaysia.

“This country was built upon the blood, sweat, and tears of generations who lit the torch of freedom. The responsibility we bear today is to ensure that this torch continues to shine brightly as our guide in navigating the challenges of a new era,” he said, in a Facebook post.

The Prime Minister underlined that Malaysia’s strength lies in its people, who uphold the values of humanity, justice, and solidarity, supported by strong national institutions and sound governance.

He also pointed out that the nation’s rich cultural heritage and societal diversity should be celebrated as a blessing, one that deepens the bonds of unity and brotherhood.

“Let us commemorate Malaysia Day by reaffirming our noble ideals and commitment to a framework that upholds human dignity, rejects moral decay, avoids division, and positions this country as an example of credible leadership in the region and on the global stage,” he added.

Anwar concluded by stressing that Malaysia must continue to be seen as a just, prosperous, and compassionate nation, leaving behind a legacy for future generations as a strong and dignified nation-state. – September 16, 2025
