KUALA LUMPUR – Traffic obstruction topped the list of offences recorded during the recent Ops PUU (Operation for Law Compliance) in the city, with authorities issuing 3,559 notices over a span of three days.

Kuala Lumpur’s deputy police chief, Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, told Scoop that a total of 10,036 notices were handed out from September 16 to 18 for various traffic violations.

“Of the total, 8,006 notices were issued through daily operations, 1,330 through integrated operations, and 700 under the Ops Didik programme,” he said.

Out of the notices, 9,508 were related to vehicles, while 528 were given to pedestrians.

In addition to traffic obstruction, other major offences included disobeying traffic lights (2,326 notices), stopping in the yellow box (525), and stopping past the white line at intersections (470).

Motorcyclists were the largest group of offenders, with 4,578 notices issued, followed by car drivers (4,353), taxis (219), vans (207), and lorries (146).

Other infractions included improper vehicle registration numbers (224), dirty or fancy plate numbers (458), not wearing seat belts (408), motorcyclists without helmets (32), and unauthorised motorcycle modifications (199).

Launched on September 6, Ops PUU emphasises community engagement and advocacy for minor traffic offences, rather than immediately issuing fines. – September 20, 2025
