Sabah state assembly dissolution expected before November 11: Hajiji

Chief Minister hints at October or November date for the 17th State Election, stressing the need for continuity in state development under GRS leadership

KUALA LUMPUR – The Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) is expected to be dissolved before it automatically expires on November 11 to pave the way for the 17th State Election (PRN), according to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

However, he did not specify whether the dissolution would take place in October or November.

Hajiji explained that the DUN dissolution would not depend on weather forecasts from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), as the term of the current assembly was nearing its end.

“We have no choice because the DUN will dissolve itself in November. So, we must dissolve it before that,” he said, following the closing ceremony of the Sabah Student Convention at the Kadazandusun Cultural Association Hall in Penampang, as reported by Borneo Post.

When asked about the speculation that the DUN might be dissolved next month due to the anticipated rainy season in October, Hajiji simply replied: “Support the government today.”

Earlier, Hajiji jokingly mentioned that the DUN dissolution would happen when the weather improved, referencing Sabah’s unpredictable climate with continuous rain in several districts.

“It won’t be long now (until the DUN is dissolved), just be patient and wait. If the weather clears up, we’ll dissolve it. Wait for better weather,” he said.

In his speech, Hajiji highlighted the significance of the 17th State Election, noting that it would determine the continuation of the state’s development under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.

He pointed out that the GRS government, under his leadership, had demonstrated its capabilities through achievements in various fields, especially in education, economy, welfare, investment, and state resource management.

“Make the best choice that ensures the continuation of development, political stability, and the welfare of the people. This election is our golden opportunity to choose a strong government, one that is dominated by local parties,” he said.

“We must not repeat the mistakes of the past, where we sought change, but it led to a different outcome. Development and progress were stalled. Many projects were abandoned due to weak and unplanned policies. In the end, we all suffered the consequences.” – September 21, 2025
