KUALA LUMPUR — The Finance Ministry is working with the Road Transport Department (RTD) to urgently resolve technical problems affecting the eligibility checks for the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) fuel subsidy programme ahead of its nationwide launch on September 30.
Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said the ministry had received complaints from several motorists who were wrongly marked as ineligible despite holding valid driving licences and MyKad.
“These are isolated cases, but we take them seriously. The ministry and RTD are working to resolve this technical issue as soon as possible before the full implementation on Tuesday,” Lim told reporters today after inspecting the scheme’s pilot phase for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients at a petrol station in Jalan Raja Uda in Butterworth, Bernama reported.
She urged the public to check their eligibility on the official portal www.budimadani.gov.my, and for those encountering problems to lodge complaints either through the website or via the hotline 1300-88-9595, providing their name, MyKad number and driving licence details.
“As long as an individual is an eligible Malaysian, they are 100% entitled to the benefits of Budi95. There may be slight delays or technical glitches, but we will ensure they are resolved quickly,” she said.
Lim added that STR recipients who began using the Budi95 initiative on Saturday had not reported any difficulties. Transactions were running smoothly via Setel, cash payments and the Touch ‘n Go e-wallet.
She also advised the public not to rush to purchase fuel when the programme takes full effect next week, noting that each eligible individual is entitled to 300 litres per month, which can be redeemed at any time.
“Everything is ready. We are confident the transition will be smooth,” she said.
According to the Finance Ministry, since September 25 more than 8.1 million people have checked their eligibility through the official website, underscoring what officials described as an “encouraging response” to the initiative. — September 28, 2025
