KUALA LUMPUR — Police have arrested two men for injuring an officer during a pro-Palestinian protest outside the United States Embassy today.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said in a statement that the suspects, aged 23 and 32, were detained for obstructing police from carrying out their duties during the demonstration, which began around 12 pm.
What started as a peaceful assembly involving about 50 participants turned tense when several individuals blocked traffic along Jalan Tun Razak.
In the ensuing commotion, a police officer sustained a mouth injury after being elbowed by one of the protesters while maintaining security at the scene.
“An investigation paper has been opened under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duties,” Fadil said, adding that the case remains under investigation.
He urged organisers and participants to comply with all laws and regulations when exercising their right to peaceful assembly, as guaranteed under the Federal Constitution.
“The police respect the public’s right to gather peacefully and are prepared to provide necessary security assistance, but will not hesitate to act firmly against anyone who breaks the law,” he said.

The protest was sparked by Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla earlier in the day, during which 23 Malaysians were among more than 200 activists detained while attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. — October 2, 2025
