KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will promptly implement Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s directive to enhance the country’s data security through the rollout of the Sovereign AI Cloud policy.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated that this initiative will be carried out under the guidance of the National Security Council (MKN), the Digital Ministry, and the Digital Department, ensuring that the management and control of the country’s strategic data are more secure, particularly with regard to the Sovereign AI Cloud.
“It takes into account policy changes in several countries, such as the United States, besides ensuring a stronger data security ecosystem, including classified information, in line with the Official Secrets Act,” he said.
Fahmi made the comments after attending the Ministerial Forum on The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Future Workforce, part of the Young Future Leaders Summit (iFuture) 2025, which was also attended by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
He emphasised that the Sovereign AI Cloud would serve as a key pillar in protecting government data and sensitive information from cyber threats, while also preserving the sovereignty of the country’s digital governance.
Meanwhile, in response to a request from the Education Ministry (MOE) for the MCMC to remove video clips related to the recent gang rape case involving students at a school in Melaka, which had gone viral on social media, Fahmi confirmed that the MCMC would issue an official statement on the matter.
He also urged the public to exercise caution when sharing content on digital platforms related to the incident.
“We must always be careful. If any content violates laws such as the Child Act, the Communications and Multimedia Act, or the Penal Code, action can be taken against those who disseminate it,” he said.
Earlier, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek mentioned that the action was being taken to prevent further dissemination of the video. – October 12, 2025
