KUALA LUMPUR – U Mobile Sdn Bhd has entered into its first 5G and 4G wholesale access agreement with Eastel, a new Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) under Anchor Communications Sdn Bhd.

In a joint statement issued today, the companies confirmed that the five-year agreement marks U Mobile’s inaugural 5G and 4G wholesale deal.

Under the agreement, U Mobile will provide its next-generation 5G infrastructure alongside its 4G network for data, voice, and SMS services, as well as support for International Direct Dial (IDD), roaming, and mobile number portability services.

U Mobile’s deputy CEO, Kenneth Chang, stated that the partnership signals the start of more 5G wholesale agreements, particularly as the company’s 5G network expansion is expected to cover 80% of populated areas (CoPA) by the second half of next year.

“With our award-winning 4G and next-generation 5G network, we are excited to provide more opportunities for telco players to leverage our advanced and future-proofed infrastructure, along with our operational expertise,” he said.

“This agreement also underscores our commitment to supporting the nation’s digital economy through enhanced market diversity and competition,” Chang added.

Eastel’s executive director, Aaron Lee, noted that the company plans to support more niche and customisable data-intensive applications for the community by leveraging U Mobile’s ultra-fast 5G and 4G networks.

“Together with U Mobile, we look forward to building a stronger, more connected Malaysia,” Lee said.

Eastel, licensed under the Application Service Provider (ASP) and Network Service Provider (NSP) categories by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, is set to launch commercially in the first quarter of 2026. – October 13, 2025
