TNB identifies power plant incident as cause of blackout across Klang Valley and Johor

KUALA LUMPUR – Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has identified an incident at the Edra Power Plant in Melaka as the cause of the widespread blackout that hit parts of the Klang Valley, and Johor Bahru this evening.

In a statement, TNB said the disruption occurred following a technical fault at the independent power producer’s (IPP) facility, which temporarily interrupted electricity supply across several regions.

“Our technical teams are working to restore power supply in stages to the affected areas,” the utility company said, adding that full restoration efforts were ongoing.

TNB urged consumers experiencing prolonged disruptions to report the issue via its official channels — the Careline at 15454, private messages on Facebook or X, or by emailing [email protected]

The power outage had earlier plunged parts of Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, and Johor Bahru into darkness, affecting homes, offices, and shopping malls.

Social media users have since reported that parts of Perak are also experiencing blackouts.

TNB reiterated its reminder for the public to handle electrical appliances with care during the restoration process, as power may return at any time.

Rapid KL confirmed that its train and bus services were not affected by the outage and are operating as usual. — Oct 15, 2025
