NACSA: No signs of cyber attack behind Klang Valley, Johor blackout

The National Cyber Security Agency has confirmed that today’s widespread power outage in parts of the Klang Valley and Johor was caused by a technical fault, not a cyber attack

KUALA LUMPUR – The National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) has ruled out any indication that today’s power outage across parts of the Klang Valley and Johor was the result of a cyber attack.

NACSA chief executive officer Megat Zuhairy Megat Tajuddin said there had been no reports from any National Critical Information Infrastructure (NCII) entity related to the incident.

“It is mandatory under Act 854 for NCII entities to report immediately to NACSA on any cyber incident. However, so far, no cyber incident related to the outage has been reported to NACSA,” he told Scoop when contacted.

“We have also verified with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and can confirm that it is not a cyber attack,” he added.

Earlier, TNB said a technical fault at the Edra Power Plant in Melaka had caused the temporary disruption, which affected parts of Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Johor Bahru, and several other areas.

Rapid KL confirmed that its train and bus services were not affected by the blackout and continued operating as usual.

As of 5.45pm, TNB confirmed that electricity supply had been fully restored. – October 15, 2025
