MIC may exit BN in November: Tajuddin

Saravanan reportedly hints at departure during Deepavali celebration

KUALA LUMPUR – Former Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has revealed that the MIC is considering leaving Barisan Nasional (BN) as early as next month.

Tajuddin made the claim in a video posted on his TikTok account on Tuesday, where he said that the matter was discussed with MIC’s Deputy President, Datuk Seri M Saravanan, during a Deepavali celebration at Saravanan’s residence on Monday.

“During our conversation, Saravanan mentioned that MIC may exit BN next month,” Tajuddin said.

“When I asked him why, he cited several reasons for their dissatisfaction, though I cannot share them here due to their sensitive nature.”

The statement comes after Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reaffirmed that BN has never forced any of its component parties to stay or leave the coalition, stressing that the choice is up to each party.

Earlier this week, Saravanan confirmed that MIC would make a final decision regarding its future in BN at the party’s upcoming Annual General Meeting in November, where it will also discuss a possible invitation to join Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Tajuddin, who has long been part of the BN family, urged Saravanan to reconsider the move, given the history and contributions of MIC within the coalition.

“We’ve shared both successes and challenges in Malaysian politics. MIC has played a key role in the nation’s development and in serving the people,” Tajuddin said.

“I hope Saravanan will reflect on this decision. While he appears firm, I believe he may receive guidance to keep MIC within BN.” – October 21, 2025
