Fahmi tells Muhyiddin’s son-in-law to ‘just come home’ and face the law

The government warns that steps are being taken to cancel the passport of Muhammad Adlan Berhan, who has been on the run for over two years

KUALA LUMPUR — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has urged fugitive businessman Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan — the son-in-law of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin — to return to Malaysia and clear his name over allegations of criminal breach of trust.

Speaking at his weekly post-Cabinet press conference today, Fahmi, who is also the government spokesperson, said Adlan should stop avoiding authorities and face the legal process.

“On the issue of the Pagoh MP’s son-in-law — no need to discuss it further. Just come home,” he said.

“The Home Minister has confirmed that several agencies have requested for his passport to be revoked. So before it’s cancelled, come back and clear your name. Why run unless you’re afraid? Don’t be — face the court.”

Adlan has been on the run for more than two years and is believed to be living a lavish lifestyle in a Middle Eastern country.

He is wanted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over alleged misappropriation involving a government project to register and store biometric data of foreign workers.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that an arrest warrant had been issued against Adlan, and that Malaysian police are coordinating with foreign authorities to locate him.

“Everyone is aware he’s abroad. We’ve issued a warrant of arrest and are taking steps that require cooperation with the relevant country. We’re doing our best to resolve this,” Khalid told reporters.

He added that police have yet to receive updates from Interpol regarding a red notice request filed by the MACC through the Attorney General’s Chambers.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya previously said investigators began probing the case in March 2023, following a formal complaint.

Between May and August that year, Adlan was repeatedly contacted through calls, WhatsApp messages, and official letters but failed to respond.

A warrant of arrest was subsequently issued by the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court on September 7, 2023, with MACC later applying for an Interpol red notice and coordinating with the Immigration Department to revoke Adlan’s passport.

Despite these measures, authorities have yet to secure his return.

Fahmi said the government views the case seriously and reiterated that no one is above the law.

“Before your passport is cancelled, come back and face the court — that’s the right thing to do,” he said. — October 24, 2025
