KUALA LUMPUR — Swiss Moto3 rider Noah Dettwiler is recovering in hospital after a serious crash during last Sunday’s Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang, his team said on Friday.

The 20-year-old is now awake and communicating with his family and doctors, having been moved out of intensive care to a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur. However, the team cautioned that Dettwiler still faces a long road to recovery.

Dettwiler suffered multiple cardiac arrests and required resuscitation after crashing during the warm-up lap.

He underwent several emergency surgeries, including the removal of his spleen to stop heavy internal bleeding and an operation on his leg, which sustained an open fracture.

The team also reported severe lung bruising and a neck tear, discovered later through X-rays. Dettwiler will need to wear a neck brace for several weeks and is expected to undergo another leg operation.

Earlier in the week, the team confirmed that Dettwiler was no longer in a life-threatening condition. It remains unclear when he will be able to return to Switzerland. — November 1, 2025
