KUALA LUMPUR — The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) will allocate RM60 million next year to repair and rebuild homes for thousands of low-income households nationwide, as part of expanded support under the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026).

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said this reflects the MADANI government’s commitment to strengthening social protection for vulnerable groups.

He said the increase reflects the Madani government’s commitment to strengthening social protection for vulnerable groups.

Under the 2026 allocation, RM45.06 million will be channeled towards home repair assistance, while RM14.94 million will fund the construction of new homes for eligible families.

In addition, KPKT will allocate RM12 million for the Program Pemerkasaan Ekonomi Komuniti Bandar (PEKB), aimed at empowering B40 urban communities.

The initiative will involve strategic partnerships with the Mah Sing Foundation and other NGOs to deliver programmes in high-density areas, particularly People’s Housing Projects (PPR).

Nga praised the Foundation’s work with PPR communities such as PPR Seri Semarak, saying its initiatives in mental health, literacy, entrepreneurship, and youth development are helping build stronger and more resilient families.

He noted that such community-focused efforts align with KPKT’s broader goals for PPR and PRR communities, where progress is measured not only in physical housing improvements but also in health, safety, education, and social cohesion.

The PEKB programme will offer skills training, financial literacy workshops, and basic entrepreneurship support, implemented through registered NGOs to ensure the programmes are targeted and impactful.

Nga also highlighted improvements under the government’s Housing Credit Guarantee Scheme (SJKP), which supports first-time homebuyers without stable income documentation, including gig workers and self-employed individuals.

“As of August this year, we have helped 95,460 homebuyers achieve their homeownership dreams, with total guaranteed loans amounting to RM22.7 billion,” he said at the Mah Sing Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Charity Dinner yesterday

Reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to the Madani agenda, Nga emphasised the importance of the “4P” principle — People, Public, Private Partnership — in improving housing outcomes and strengthening community development.

Such collaborations, he said, are already producing meaningful results on the ground. – November 19, 2025
