KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has maintained that there’s nothing wrong with the awarding of parking concessions in the state to a company reportedly linked to a member of the Selangor royal family.
According to him, the said company – Selmax Sdn Bhd, a company which was awarded three concessions under the Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) initiative to privatise street parking, was appointed based on merit.
“The State Government Council meeting (MMKN) was not involved (in screening the company), as the task was left to the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI).
“MBI conducted the screening process, and it did not include (finding out) who the ‘real owner’ is, and so on.
“If the company is found to have the capability to handle (the project), I don’t see why it’s wrong for a member of the royal household to be involved, perhaps as a patron to the chosen party,” Amirudin was quoted telling reporters after officiating a function for small traders in Selangor, yesterday.
Earlier this week, anti-graft group Centre to Combat Corruption & Cronyism (C4 Centre) urged the Selangor state government to come clean on the awarding of the SIP contract to Selmax Sdn Bhd.
This after Malaysiakini reported that Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah, owns a 16.5 per cent stake in the company, through two other holding companies: Tanah Perwira Sdn Bhd and Greyscale Holdings Sdn Bhd.
In addition, C4 Centre also accused the Selangor state administration of allegedly attempting to block public access to key documents in the matter.
The group then urged the Selangor state government to revert the SIP initiative concession to the contracting stage and issue a new request for proposals.– November 22, 2025
