KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Airports Group (MAG) recorded a total of 12.8 million passenger movements across its domestic network and Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (ISGIA) last month.

According to MAG, 69% of this total, or 8.8 million passengers, were handled by the Group’s airports in Malaysia.

This comprised 4.6 million international travellers and 4.2 million domestic travellers, while ISGIA accounted for the remaining four million passengers.

Overall, this brought year-to-date passenger movements to 125.7 million, marking an 11.8% increase from 112.5 million recorded during the same period last year.

Managing Director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said that as the year-end peak approaches and preparations for Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) continue, the Group’s priority is clear — ensuring capacity, service levels, and facilities remain consistently reliable for all passengers.

“Recent challenges have made us more deliberate in strengthening proactive risk mitigation across our network. Managing 39 airports nationwide requires constant coordination, anticipating issues early, and keeping operations steady the vast majority of the time,” he said.

The statement noted that Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) recorded 5.4 million passenger movements in October, up from 5.3 million in September.

“To keep pace with this growing traffic, KLIA has implemented several initiatives to enhance passenger experience across both terminals, including improving kerbside flow, enhancing wayfinding, and refreshing key passenger touchpoints.

“These efforts include the implementation of the Vehicle Access Management System (VAMS) at the kerbside and the refurbishment of Terminal 2 boarding lounges into open-concept spaces,” he said.

All these initiatives form part of a broader programme to provide a more seamless travel experience as passenger traffic continues to rise.

“International connectivity was further strengthened in October 2025 with Scoot Airlines launching two weekly flights between Singapore and Kota Bharu, improving regional access and supporting tourism development on the East Coast.

Looking ahead to the final quarter of the year, Malaysia Airports is working closely with airline partners and relevant stakeholders across its network to support schedule resilience, resource planning, and peak-season coordination.

This includes aligning terminal operations, strengthening on-ground support, and ensuring all stakeholders are prepared for heightened traffic leading into VM2026. – 25 November 2025
