KUALA LUMPUR — A 37-year-old man pleaded guilty at the magistrate’s court here today to a charge of assaulting sports journalist Haresh Deol earlier this week.
The New Straits Times reported that R. Krishnan entered the plea when the charge was read to him before magistrate Ili Marisqa Khalizan.
According to the charge sheet, Krishnan, along with another suspect who’s still at large, voluntarily caused hurt to Haresh in front of the Tanjung Balai Group building on the evening of November 25.
The father of six was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which carries a jail term of up to one year, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Hench Goh proposed bail of RM4,000 with one surety and asked the court to set another date for sentencing.
Defence counsel Mohamad Salihen Mastor asked for a lower bail, as his client earns only RM40 a day as a delivery runner, and is the sole breadwinner of his family.
The court then fixed bail at RM2,000 with one surety and set January 22 for sentencing.
On Tuesday, Haresh, who is also the co-founder of TwentyTwo13 news, revealed that he was attacked while walking to his car, with another individual filming the incident on their mobile phone.
In a post on X, Haresh confirmed that he had lodged a police report regarding the incident.
Following the attack, police launched a manhunt to identify three men believed to be involved in the attack, which occurred on Jalan Maarof near a shopping mall parking lot while Haresh was walking along the sidewalk towards Jalan Telawi.
Earlier, Haresh, who is also the Deputy President of the National Press Club (NPC), rejected claims that the assault on him was related to a personal issue, as mentioned by Brickfields district police chief Hoo Chang Hook.
Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Seri Fadil Marsus said the attack on Haresh may have been a case of mistaken identity. — November 28, 2025
