Kuala Lumpur police chief urges public cooperation as investigation into immoral activities at Chow Kit outlet continues

KUALA LUMPUR – A magistrate court yesterday rejected a remand application against 171 local men detained during a raid at a spa and wellness outlet in Chow Kit on Friday.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said 31 foreigners were remanded for two days to facilitate investigations.

The raid, conducted by the police’s D7 unit, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, and the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi), uncovered immoral activities at the premises. Seventeen of those detained were civil servants.

Fadil said that the police faced challenges in prosecuting the case due to a lack of evidence and legislative constraints, which require a victim for such offences. He appealed for cooperation among relevant ministries to address the issue.

“The lack of a victim makes it difficult for us to proceed with charges,” Fadil said. “We urge the public to come forward if they have any information about the activities at this premises.”

The spa and wellness outlet had been operating on the second and third floors of a shop lot, with a gymnasium on the ground floor and sauna and jacuzzi facilities above. The premises also had a ‘dark room’ for patrons.

Fadil emphasized that the police would continue to monitor the situation and take action against any establishments involved in immoral activities. He also urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

The incident has raised concerns about the spread of immoral activities and the need for legislative amendments to address such cases. The government has been urged to review the laws and regulations to ensure that they are effective in curbing such activities.

In a related development, the Selangor government has announced plans to introduce stricter regulations on spa and wellness outlets in the state. The move is aimed at preventing the spread of immoral activities and ensuring that such establishments operate within the law.

The issue has sparked a national debate, with many calling for stricter laws and regulations to address the problem. The government has assured the public that it will take necessary actions to address the issue and ensure that the country remains a safe and moral place to live.

In the meantime, the police have urged anyone with information about the activities at the spa and wellness outlet to come forward and assist with the investigation. – November 30, 2025
