Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim calls for transparent investigations into the incidents, stressing that no one is above the law, including police officers

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, to provide a comprehensive report on the recent shooting incident in Melaka and the death of a detainee.

The Prime Minister stated that Mohd Khalid has been tasked with delivering a transparent, open, and professional report to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail regarding the case.

“I have directed the Inspector-General of Police to continue the investigation transparently and without protecting anyone,” Anwar said after performing Friday prayers with around 1,500 congregants at Cyberjaya 10 Mosque.

“We do not protect criminals, but we also do not shield any actions, including those of police officers, that go against the rule of law,” he added.

Anwar also confirmed that the Cabinet welcomed the Royal Malaysian Police’s (PDRM) firm stance in dealing with criminals and any violations of the law.

However, he emphasised that any complaints related to misconduct or procedural breaches in this case must be investigated openly.

Earlier media reports revealed that three men, suspected to be among the most wanted robbers, were shot dead after attacking police officers while attempting to escape during an operation at a palm oil plantation in Durian Tunggal, early on November 24.

Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar confirmed that the three suspects were shot after one of them slashed a corporal who tried to arrest them, severely injuring the officer’s left hand.

On Wednesday, the legal team representing the families of the three men demanded that Bukit Aman investigate their deaths, claiming the victims were executed, based on audio and forensic evidence.

The lawyers also revealed a 13-minute audio recording allegedly made during the incident, which contradicted the police’s narrative regarding the event.

In response, the Director of Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ), Datuk M Kumar, announced that Bukit Aman would take over the investigation, with a special team being formed within the department.

Meanwhile, media reports also quoted Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo urging the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) to clarify allegations about a lorry driver who died in police custody, with no investigation launched despite over nine months having passed. – December 5, 2025
