KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed today that the federal government had already fulfilled all financial obligations concerning the Felda land issue in Terengganu.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil clarified that Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, provided this information during today’s Cabinet meeting.
“The Prime Minister made it clear that all financial requirements related to the land have been settled and paid in full,” Fahmi said. “However, there are certain issues that have not been followed up by the state government.”
Fahmi added that this afternoon, Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican met with the Terengganu state government to ensure that federal commitments were properly followed up. “This step is crucial,” Fahmi stressed.
The minister made the remarks after attending the National Anti-Corruption Day 2025 celebration in Putrajaya.
Last Sunday, the Terengganu state government issued a notice barring encroachment on Felda-managed land across 10 plantations, covering roughly 15,000 hectares. The state claimed that the land had been cultivated for over 40 years without proper payment of premiums, taxes, or profit-sharing.
The notices were distributed simultaneously to plantation managers in Setiu, Besut, Kemaman, Marang, Dungun, and Hulu Terengganu.
Datuk Dr Azman Ibrahim, the chairman of Terengganu’s Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Food Security, and Commodities Committee, explained that the action followed Felda’s failure to respond to the state’s demand for 30 per cent profit-sharing from the land, which had been developed over the last four decades. – December 5, 2025
