KUALA LUMPUR – MCA has passed a resolution to leave Barisan Nasional (BN) if any component of the coalition cooperates with DAP in the upcoming General Election (GE).
Delegates also agreed that MCA will set its own course if such cooperation occurs.
According to MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, MCA cannot work with DAP due to significant ideological differences between the two parties.
He earlier told delegates that since coming into power, DAP and Pakatan Harapan (PH) have made U-turns on numerous issues, abandoning promise after promise.
“If, by the next general election, some BN allies still wish to continue cooperating with them, that only means the BN spirit has completely disappeared.
“In that case, we can only say, ‘Good luck! MCA has its own path,’” he said at today’s MCA General Assembly.
Previously, one of the BN components, MIC, had passed a resolution to end its participation in the coalition, but delegates left the decision to the party leadership.
The resolution was reached at the 79th MIC General Assembly recently after in-depth and careful discussions among grassroots members.
MIC also applied to join Perikatan Nasional (PN), and it was confirmed by PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Unlike MCA, although it acknowledged receiving a proposal to join PN, Wee Ka Siong stressed that such a move is difficult to consider as long as PAS does not reform into a more moderate party.
He noted that sentiment among the Chinese community remains clear — they reject PAS, especially after several controversial statements by party leaders that were alleged to have offended non-Muslims.
However, this resolution by MCA delivers a setback to BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who continues to express his stance to remain in the Unity Government. – December 7, 2025
