PBM only seeking fulfilment of promises made during unity govt formation: Larry Sng

PBM president Larry Sng says his call for all unity government parties to be represented in the Cabinet was based on commitments allegedly made by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in 2022, even as analysts warn of political backlash over a bigger line-up

KUALA LUMPUR – Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president Larry Sng maintains that his proposal for every unity government party to be included in the Cabinet stems from promises made by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim when the coalition was being formed two years ago.

Sng, the Julau MP and PBM’s sole representative in the Dewan Rakyat, claimed Anwar had made multiple assurances to various parties to secure their support before the unity government took shape in late 2022.

“I am just reminding him of what was promised.

“Even if he decides against allocating a position to PBM, we will remain (in the unity government) and continue to lend our support to him until the next election,” he said in a Facebook post.

His remarks came after political analysts dismissed the idea of giving Cabinet positions to every unity government component — including smaller parties such as PBM, MCA and MIC.

They cautioned that reallocating portfolios from larger coalition partners could strain internal relationships, while appointing ministers from parties with only one or two MPs might fuel perceptions that Anwar was yielding to political pressure.

Analysts also warned of potential public backlash over a Cabinet seen as excessively large.

The Prime Minister’s Office said last week that a Cabinet reshuffle would be announced soon.

Four ministerial positions are currently vacant: economy; natural resources and environment sustainability; entrepreneur development and cooperatives; and investment, trade and industry. – December 10, 2025
