Saifuddin urges Perlis Mufti to submit information on alleged deviant Korean cult

Police action hinges on official report, Saifuddin says, as allegations of a Korean cult gain public attention

KUALA LUMPUR – Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has called on Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin to urgently step forward and provide full details on an alleged Korean‑linked deviant cult said to be operating in Malaysia.

Saifuddin said the information was essential for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to open an investigation, stressing that the claims were too serious to remain in the realm of social media posts.

“I urge Mohd Asri to come forward and furnish complete information to the authorities. He clearly has the details he referred to,” Saifuddin said at a press conference after the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly in Putrajaya today.

He was responding to questions on whether police had received any formal report regarding the alleged cult, which is said to be involved in unusual and deviant practices.

The issue gained traction after Mohd Asri, in a recent Facebook post, claimed that several Muslim Members of Parliament and prominent individuals were actively assisting the movement. He also said the matter had been presented at a Perlis State Fatwa Committee meeting.

Saifuddin noted that PDRM’s Special Branch maintains a dedicated unit that monitors deviant teachings across various religions, including tracking the modus operandi of groups and individuals involved. However, he emphasised that the police cannot act without an official report.

“Investigations can only begin once a report is lodged. Any action taken will follow existing laws,” he said.

“So I urge Dr Maza (Mohd Asri) to come forward and lodge a report. Once that happens, we will begin the investigation immediately.” – December 11, 2025
