KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian government will offer scholarships to five Palestinians residing in the country to help them rebuild Palestine’s damaged communications infrastructure.
According to Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, there are many lessons they can learn from Malaysia, particularly in communication and 5G network deployment.
“MCMC will collaborate with the Palestinian embassy in Kuala Lumpur to identify candidates for scholarships in network engineering or engineering studies in Malaysia,” he said at a press conference following the MCMC Scholarship Handover Ceremony today.
Also present were the Ministry of Communications’ Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.
At the event, 25 outstanding students received MCMC LEGASI and MCMC CARE scholarships. All recipients will be exposed to fields such as regulatory development, digital infrastructure, policy innovation, and network security.
They will also receive training and certifications in various skills to prepare them to lead the sector upon graduation.
The MCMC LEGASI scholarship is offered to five high-achieving students for studies in Malaysia or abroad, while the MCMC CARE scholarship is offered to 20 students from low-income families for studies at local public universities.
The selection process for scholarship recipients was rigorous, involving 907 applications, including, 588 for the LEGASI program and 319 for the CARE program.
Candidates underwent multiple interview stages, including academic evaluation, financial need assessment, psychometric testing, and a final interview by an independent committee comprising MCMC officers and academics.
The selection also ensured representation from Sabah and Sarawak.
Both scholarships provide full funding and structured industry exposure to equip Malaysia’s young talent with skills in fields such as telecommunications, media, regulatory policy, cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things (IoT). — December 16, 2025
