KUALA LUMPUR – The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has instructed that the police shooting incident involving three men in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, be classified as a murder case.
In a statement, the AGC said the decision was made based on a briefing and recommendations submitted by the police.
“Based on the briefing and recommendations provided by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), this department agrees and has instructed that the investigation be reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for the offense of murder.
“Preliminary review by this department found that several further actions still need to be taken by PDRM to complete the investigation before any final decision is made,” it said.
Earlier today, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, had assured him that the investigation into the police shooting would be conducted thoroughly and transparently.
The shooting incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on November 24 at a palm oil plantation in Durian Tunggal.
In the incident, three men aged between 24 and 29 were shot dead after one of them allegedly swung a machete at a police corporal.
The police officer, in his early 30s, sustained serious injuries to his left arm.
Police said all three men were believed to be members of the Durian Tunggal Gang, which has been active since 2024 and linked to 20 cases in Melaka and one case each in Negeri Sembilan and Selangor, with estimated losses totaling RM1.35 million.
However, on December 3, the family of the deceased questioned the police’s claim that the suspects had attacked the officer, prompting Bukit Aman to form a special team on December 4 to investigate the allegations. – December 16, 2025
